Post Renovation Cleaning Checklist

After waiting out the renovation of the home of your dreams, most homeowners are very excited to move in. However, there will definitely be some residual and dirt leftover from the renovation process. Hence, regardless of the "professional" post-work cleanup by your contractors, there will need to be a post-renovation cleaning done by yourselves.

Here are some important steps that you should follow if you want to do the post-construction clean-up like a pro.


1. Ceilings

You should start your clean-up process just from the top of your room. You will have to start from the ceiling portion of the house and gradually come down the flooring portion. You should take care of the edges of windows and doors as well. You should clean-up the fan blades and lights as well. You will have to clean the air vent and other necessary parts as well. If needed, you can change the vent cover.



2. Carpets and Upholstery

Vacuum carpets and upholstery: Our curtains and carpets are mainly the victim of dust and particles. You cannot settle down just after the renovation. The room is look like a filthy storeroom. So, you will have to clean it up as soon as possible. Sometimes, the filthy room can cause irritation and itchiness. So, you will have to do this very carefully. At first, you will need to vacuum all the cushions and curtains and frames as well. You can use your vacuum cleaner twice in case of satisfaction and clean up the residual dust as well.



3. Cabinets and Closets

Clean-up inside of cabinets and closets: Due to the construction work, your cabinets and closets get affected and filled with dust and particles as well. You will have to clean it up properly in order to use it for further. You can do it simply. By using a micro-fibre cloth you can wipe out the dust from the closet and cabinet as well. If your closet is filled with clothes, then you will have to take those out and shake it properly in order to remove the dust from it. But in case of cabinet, you will have to work a little more. You will have to pick all the items and clean it properly. After that, you will also have to put them accordingly.



4. Miscellaneous Areas

Don’t forget about little things: There are so many little things in your home that you should clean-up properly just after the post-renovation work. You should clean the furniture and other necessary items of your room very carefully. You should make your space dust-free and transform it into a perfect living space. These little things are very important such as:

  • Ceiling fan

  • Lamp shades

  • Light fixtures

  • Electronics

  • Small appliances

  • Other kind of decorative items


5. The Floor

Vacuum and mop the floor: It is the last step that you need to follow. At the end of renovation, the floor will get dirty naturally. You can use the broom in order to collect the all dust together. After that you can put it in the dustbin. Before that you should also do the wall cleaning process. The cleaning effort and time depends on the surface of the floor. If your floor is covered with carpet, then you will need the vacuum cleaner in order to get out the dust from your carpet. There are many professionals who can also use the steam cleaner as well.
