7 Up & Coming Trends for Singapore Homes In 2021

2020 may be the year of Scandinavian design. However, the Singaporean renovation scene is constantly changing, with new homeowners still moving in. In the recent months, our designers have reported a few shifts in the upcoming home trends, and have compiled our findings in the this short, digestible article for your view pleasure.

1. Open Concept

Although not a new concept, more and more homeowners are opting for the open space concept. The theme is simple: Less is More. This means hacking down of walls to combine rooms to emulate a more larger space.

2. Incorporating Greenery

Adding fake plants kills 2 birds with 1 stone in this case. Having plants bring homes closer to nature while needing near minimal effort in maintaining said plants. A simple yet cost-effective solution for any home.

3. Open Kitchen Concept

Gone are the days where kitchens are hidden far from the dining tables in traditional houses. With an open kitchen, its more practical to serve the food easily while its hot. While incorporating natural lightning into the this kitchen, it makes the kitchen look more stylish and efficient for social interaction.

4. Hexagonal tiles

Hexagonal tiles have been around for a while now, but only recently are they used in other places other than floors. The six-sided pattern can be quite stylish in modern-day standards, mixing well in a wide variety of patterns, materials and colors. They are used commonly in kitchens & storage room walls, or bathrooms floors.

5. Smart Storage

Homes are getting smaller. Its not wonder that smart storage are the next best thing. Designers, including ours, will definitely recommend to incorporate such elements for any homeowner. From storage solutions such as platform with in-built drawers to floor-to-ceiling wardrobes, these are simple yet effective solutions to save space to create more spacious rooms.

6. Dark themes

Contrary to common assumptions that dark colors makes a home look dull, a specific combination of colors can result in a very classy look. Trends usually come and go, and with everything in lighter tones for the past decade, duller tones are rising in popularity recently due to how the color scheme stands out among its competition.

7. Adding Japanese Elements.

Last but not least, its surprisingly Scandinavian has been less popular recently. There has been more demand for a minimalist Japanese-inspired interior, which has a darker contrast than Scandinavian. This style tends to mix light woods with darker details or fixtures, like darker modernized-traditional wooden doors. The wooden combination adds a touch of homeliness to the interior, creating a cosy space for any homeowner.
